Pond Hockey Champions feature USA Women's National Bandy Team players

The pond hockey team "Consistently Cuatro" are the champions of the Women's Division of the 2020 US Pond Hockey Championships, which were held at Lake Nokomis in south Minneapolis January 24 to 26.

The 8 skaters on pond hockey champion Consistently Cuatro included 6 current players the US Women's National Bandy team, Amy Stech, Kelsey Kennedy, Mollie Carroll, Meagan Wanecke, Maddie Bergh, Allie Johnson, which will be competing in the Women's World Championships in Oslo, Norway February 19-23.

The team name, Consistently Cuatro, comes from the fact that Kennedy, Carroll, Wanecke, Bergh and Johnson all played hockey for Gustavus Adolphus College where they finished 4th in the nation 4 consecutive years.

In addition to the US bandy women skating for Consistently Cuatro, 3 other US women's national bandy team skaters competed in the pond hockey tourney, Jill Reynolds and Margot Fleming for Shenanigans and Tam Meuwissen for Top Shelf Tricks.

Consistently Cuatro finished with a 2 and 2 record in the round robin. They played the round robin with a free flowing format that did not designate any of the 4 skaters on the ice at one time as forwards or defense. This led to 30 goals against in their two round robin losses. In the semis, they changed their strategy to a structured line up with dedicated forwards and defense. The new strategy was a complete winner. In the semis Consistently Cuatro defeated Golden Lights 13-9 after losing to them 13-12 in the round robin. In the championship game they met Top Shelf Trick, who they had lost to 17-5 in the round robin. The result in the championship was a complete turnaround with Consistently Cuatro winning 12-4.

It was quite a weekend for all 9 of the USA women's national team bandy players. Not only did they play 6 games in the pond hockey tourney, they also had a Saturday evening bandy game in the US league which they won 2-1 and a Sunday night friendship match against US men's team, The Sparrows, which ended in a 5-4 victory. There is no question that the players on the USA women's national bandy team are in tremendous condition and will be ready for Oslo and the World Championships.
