Dynamo Washburn is thru to the Championship

Dynamo Washburn is thru to the Championship after a decisive 9-5 victory over the #2 seeded Mississippi MoJo last night at the Plymouth Ice Center. A back and forth first half that ended 3-2 in favor of the MoJo was broken wide open during the first five minutes of the second. Washburn hit the MoJo with waves of attack, scoring 3 goals and taking a 5-3 lead they would never relinquish.

Goaltender of the Year Anders Jecha was as good as advertised, especially in a first half that saw the MoJo throwing everything but the kitchen sink at him. Dynamo Washburn has been most successful this year with a full bench and when playing as a team. Both things were on clear display Monday evening, with a suffocating defensive structure that gave the MoJo very few scoring opportunities once Dynamo had the lead. Washburn’s best players were at the top of their game as well, with Peter and Andrew Knutson both scoring on rocket bandy shots, and speedsters Caleb Herbert and Sam Blaisdell pressuring the ball all over the ice. Dynamo Washburn has very little time to celebrate reaching their first rink bandy final, as the #1 seeded Minnehaha Maulers await ….

The battle for the Cannon Cup takes place tonight, 9:30PM at the Plymouth Ice Center. The top seeded Maulers will be taking on a streaking Dynamo squad coming quickly off their semifinal victory last night. The league’s top two goaltenders, Jecha and Joe Howe, will be facing off in a rematch of the Maulers tightly contested 8-6 victory in week 5 of the regular season. The stakes for tonight’s match are much, much higher than two points in the standings, with the 29th Cannon Cup Championship on the line.

The Plymouth Ice Center’s elevated VIP seating area has been secured for bandy fans, and to help accommodate the expected capacity crowd. Maulers’ management will be providing free refreshments for fans, possibly in an attempt to sway the crowd in their favor. The championship celebration will take place immediately following the match at Jake’s Grille in Plymouth.

Good luck to both of the teams! Looking forward to seeing everyone at the rink for one of the most anticipated dates on the USA bandy calendar; The Cannon Cup Championship.
