2014 USA Bandy Hall of Fame Inductee - Tom Howard

Rollerblades, Rowbikes, Rink Bandy League Founder.....

Prior to beginning his bandy career Tom rollerbladed from Denver to Minneapolis, over 900 miles. Near the end of his career he rowbiked from the southern tip of Florida to the northernmost point of Maine, almost 2000 miles. Tom brought those same God given powerful legs and determination to USA Bandy. He began his USA career in 1984 and immediately made the US National Team which played for the first time in the 1985 World Championships in Oslo, Norway. Tom went on to become a mainstay on Team USA, playing in 8 World Championships and numerous other international tournaments, a total of 175 international matches over the next 20 years. In addition he played several years in Sweden with Grangesberg in 1985-86, and Sunvara in 1986-87 and 1995-96. 

Tom was also player/co-coach of the USA National Team 1989-1993. He was a co-founder of the Minnesota Reindeer Bandy Club that won 4 USA Championships in the early 1990s and a 7 time USA Champion overall. Tom Howard was also the founder of the USA Summer Rink Bandy League in 1985 and for the next 27 years organized and played in the league. The summer league has proven to be an important source of new talent and a way for players to develop their skills. The USA Rink Bandy Championship, " The Cannon Cup" is named in his honor. (Cannon is Tom’s middle name). In 2014, Tom was hired to coach Surte’s Division 1 bandy team in Surte, Sweden. For his undisputed huge impact on the sport, Tom Howard is honored with a place in the USA Bandy Hall of Fame.
