253 International Matches is Unequaled in Bandy History...

Chris Halden has been USA Bandy’s biggest ambassador for three decades. His unmatched passion, enthusiasm and dedication to the sport has literally been the “glue” that kept the sport going in the United States. Halden was ready when the sport of bandy came knocking. His first bandy game was with the Bandolier at the tail end of the 1982-83 season. After one full season with the undefeated 1982-83 Bandolier squad, he made the 1983 Team USA and never looked back. Halden became a fixture on Team USA, playing on nearly every single USA National Team between 1983-2005 and again in 2007 and 2009 and 2011. His incredible 253 international matches are the most by any bandy player in history and a testament to his ability, durability and dedication. His career highlights include playing in 12 World Championships, 13 World Cup Ljusdal tournaments and 2 Russian (Rossia) Cup tournaments for Team USA. He made history as the first American player to score in the 1983 Dex World Cup (Ljusdal, Sweden), was the first American to score against a team from the Soviet Union (Moscow Dynamo in 1985 in Pori, Finland) and was on the first American bandy team to play in the Soviet Union (Abakan, Russia 1988). He played two seasons in Europe, first in 1987-88 with Lidkoping AIK in Sweden and later with Hamer, Norway in 1998-99. He was player-coach of several US teams including the Minnesota Reindeer, Minnetonka Dynamo and most recently the Amur Tigers. Halden continued his on-ice heroicsat the age of 58 by leading his 2014 Summer Bandy team to the USA national championship. “Haldo” will certainly be remembered for his uncanny ability to discover and develop raw hockey talent into players capable of playing on an international level in a very short span of time. He has been instrumental in keeping the bandy league intact as the USA Bandy League Commissioner for the last several years. As a player, coach, manager and bandy ambassador, his efforts have provided hundreds of players over the last 30 years the opportunity to fulfill their dreams of playing overseas and playing for their country. For his long career and accomplishments, we welcome Chris Halden into the USA Bandy Hall of Fame.
