His Organization and Negotiation Skills Took USA Bandy Around the Globe...

A Swedish transplant who had grown up playing bandy in Sweden, Magnus Skold has been instrumental in USA Bandy since it's beginning. He helped organize the first bandy exhibition game at Lewis Park and was an original member of the American Bandy Association. He has been both an ABA and an International Bandy Federation member since 1981. Skold was behind the formation of teams in the original US league including the Bagheera Blades and Tre Kroner which were important steps in bandy gaining a foothold in Edina. He was also a co-founder of the Minnesota Bandy Federation (1984). It is Magnus' supreme talents in organization and negotiation, however, that have been essential to the development and success of USA Bandy. This has been showcased in his role as General Manager of every USA Bandy team which has played overseas in the last 35 years (over 50 trips total). In this role Magnus coordinated visas/flights/transportation/hotels/food/practices/games and off ice activities in countries from Sweden to Hungary to Russia. Known as "max", or "Magic Man", Magnus could turn a $500 airline luggage fee into a problem solved by the simple gift of a USA Bandy pin. In addition Magnus was the General Director and Organizer when USA Bandy successfully hosted the 1995 Men's and 2006 Women's World Championships. He also played a crucial role in the building of the Guidant John Rose Oval Bandy Rink by obtaining and implementing from Sweden all the necessary technology to build the rink. Magnus is clearly an integral part of USA Bandy history and its success.
