The first US Champion in Bandy, The Bandolier, was crowned in February 1981. Since then The Bandolier have won 11 additional US Championships, a total of 12 overall. Will they make it 13 this week? The Sparrows, this year's league champions, will have a lot to say about that. The two clubs are very familiar with one another. In 2014 The Sparrows(initially The Dukes) were formed by two Bandolier players, John Arundel and Jon Keseley, after winning 4 Championships with the Bandolier, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014. The Sparrows proceeded to win the 2015 US Championship in their first season. The Bandolier reclaimed Championship honors in 2016. It was The Sparrows turn in 2017 and again The Bandolier in 2018. In 2019 The Bombers broke the Bandolier/Sparrow run defeating The Sparrows in a shootout in the title game. The Bombers are now out, having been defeated by The Bandolier in the semis while The Sparrows topped The Mojo. The Sparrows won both contests against The Bandolier during the regular season but recognize that the Bandolier have twice taken them out of the playoffs. This year's championship round should be epic.
