If you look up “bandolier” in the dictionary, you will find the following definition: a shoulder belt with loops or pockets for cartridges.  Perhaps it’s time for an update to the term, however, as it should also be defined as “bandy dynasty”.  Since its inception in 1980, the Minneapolis Bandolier men’s bandy club team has won an astounding 11 US national bandy championships, the most recent being earlier this year at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season.  No other team in this history of the American Bandy Association has been this successful, nor has any other team enjoyed such longevity.

This fall, the Minneapolis Bandolier begins a brand-new chapter, as the ABA will send its first-ever Bandolier women’s team out to take on some of the best club teams from around the world.  Featuring many players off of the USA Women’s Bandy National Team roster, this select team will travel to Sweden next week to participate in the annual Women’s World Cup of Bandy tournament.  It will be the first time a North American women’s team has participated in the event, which is historically laden with elite teams from Norway, Russia, and Sweden.  The tournament runs from October 28th through October 30th at Ale Arena in Kungalv.

Prior to arriving in Sweden, the North American ladies will enjoy a few days in Norway, where they will practice and mingle with players and personnel from the Oslo women’s club team.  All in all, it should be an exciting week of camaraderie, sight-seeing, and of course top-notch bandy action!
